I have found that people tend to have vastly different likes, dislikes and needs when it comes to meditation books, so you are better off browsing on your own. A few years ago I got a phone call from a friend saying she had gone back over thank you cards people had sent to her and she was thanking me for one I had sent her. Those cards are beautiful that we receive and we wonder what to do with them. I started keeping the thank you cards I received in a notebook and I was surprised at myself for all the nice things I have done for people. I keep ticket stubs and mementos like that in my journal and then I write about that activity. I have always joked with my girls saying, "if you can't read my writing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you can just look at my journal as it is chock full of little mementos". This makes it interesting and fun.
Let it go: Don't just store something because "you might need it one day." If you haven't used it in years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], odds are you never will. And if you do need it in the future can you replace it easily? Will the cost of the new item out weigh the space it is using now and the emotional stress it is causing you for keeping it?

I find it interesting that the Dalai Lama uses the phrase "practicing contentment" in this quote. To "practice contentment" is different than simply "being content."

Maybe these tough economic times are a great time to find out where we are striving for things that we don't need at all. Maybe all of that striving is actually taking us further from a contented state of happiness.
Sometimes I think it would help for me to take everything out of my home and start over. What do I really want? What do I really need? Then I can slowly start letting things back into my home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one by one.

However, the world of nonfiction publishing has changed dramatically over the last few years. It’s getting harder and harder to get a nonfiction book published if you don’t have what they call a “platform.” Magazines and newspapers are discontinuing publication left and right. Self-publishing choices are becoming slimmer rather than broader. Book promotion and sales has become the job of the author not the publisher. For all these reasons, nonfiction writers need to stay educated about the new tools of their trade, such as the Internet and all it has to offer. The nonfiction writer has to wear many hats and has to wear them well to become successful.
No one will be looking over your shoulder. Write Nonfiction in November does not constitute a contest, and I won’t be handing out a prize at the end of the month. Your award comes in the form of the great feeling you will get from knowing you completed your "assignment." There is a really great way of foretelling exactly how your future will turn out. It does not require that you visit a clairvoyant, sit under a pyramid and chant or even that you gaze into a crystal ball. All that is needed is a good set of plans detailing how you want your future to turn out and the commitment and discipline to take action every day to carry out your plan.
You can never successfully build anything unless you have a plan. Would you attempt to build a house without first drawing a plan? You know that you could attempt to build the house without a plan, but how do you think it will turn out? The house would be flawed and unstable. If you would not attempt to build a house without a plan, then why do we travel through the journey of life, without a plan? If the house we would build without a plan would be unsatisfactory,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], why do we think our lives would be any different?
If you just started laying bricks to build a house and somebody asked you what you were building. You would answer that you have no idea.
